Gazelle world premiere at IAA Hanover

  • Gazelle unveils the ideal package transporter
  • Introduction mid-2019, with pilot starting this autumn in Amsterdam
  • Sustainable, cost-efficient transport
  • Light Electrical Freight Transporter (LEFT)

Dieren, 19 September 2018 – During the IAA in Hanover, the world’s leading international transport fair, Gazelle is presenting the D10 e-cargo, the ideal package transporter. With the D10, Gazelle, working together with Aluca and ‘mobility as a service’ (MaaS) start-up DOCKR, is responding in its own way to the demand for smart, fast, green and (cost-)efficient ‘last-mile’ transport solutions for inner city areas.

The D10 is part of a broader vision of the development partners – Gazelle, DOCKR and Aluca – in the field of ‘mobility as a service’ and zero-emission urban logistics – with the underlying aim of making cities cleaner, safer, more accessible and more sustainable. The D10 e-cargo is ideally suited for the ‘last-mile’ delivery of packages and (refrigerated) food in urban areas. Each shipment quickly reaches its destination, because the manoeuvrable D10 is unaffected by congestion. It is permitted on cycle paths and can even access the pavement – the D10 therefore has no parking problems in busy city centres. What’s more, this innovative e-cargo bike is welcome in every environmental zone.

Through the city centre with electrical power
The Gazelle D10 is an e-cargo bike with electrical pedal assistance. It accommodates up to two standard luggage boxes with Euro Pallet dimensions (1,200 x 800 x 1,100 mm), a volume of 1 m3 and a load capacity of 100 kg. The pedal support of the D10 is electrical and free of local emissions, thanks to a 250 W Bosch Performance CX motor in combination with a battery with a capacity of 1,000 Wh. With this support, a maximum speed of 25 km can be attained. The support ensures that the D10 moves easily and smoothly through traffic, even with heavy loads. This also contributes to the speed of the transport service. No licence plate is required for the D10.

Smart Boxz concept suitable for easy cross-docking
In city centres, the transfer from large to small means of transport is particularly challenging. The Boxz concept of the D10 is ideally suitable for easily moving goods from a truck to a van in a standardised manner, and then to the D10 e-cargo bike. Smart, fast and flexible exchanges are guaranteed.

Aluca – the specialist in the organisation of commercial vehicle applications – developed the Boxz concept. The starting point is a luggage box with Euro Pallet dimensions (1,200 x 800 x 1,100 mm), a volume of 1 m3 and a load capacity of 100 kg. By default, the transport bike has space for one box (D10) and even two (D20) in combination with a trailer. The smart Boxz concept has several advantages. The luggage boxes are easy to install from both the left and right side of the bicycle by means of a standard rail system and are therefore very suitable for ‘easy cross-docking’. This means that the boxes are extremely easy to use at every stage of the logistics process: from the logistics centre through the truck and/or van to the D10.

Available from mid-2019
The world premiere of the Gazelle D10 is reserved for the IAA in Hanover (20 – 27 September 2018) and will be presented on the Aluca stand, number C57 in Hall 13. The Gazelle D10 e-cargo, which is to be produced at the Gazelle factory in Dieren, is expected to come onto the market in 2019. This autumn, Gazelle will start the first pilots in Amsterdam in collaboration with PostNL.
